After weeks of waiting, I finally made it to the Bowes Museum to visit the YSL – Style is Eternal exhibition. Iconic pieces from Saint Laurent were showcased throughout different themes such as haute couture, masculin-feminin, lace and transparency and art. The French designer’s life was displayed in the most beautiful way with photographs, video and writing explaining how the fashion house was created and the inspirations throughout his career. The most eye catching theme for me was the Art influence in his work. The famous Mondrian dresses from 1965 are so memorable and my favourite piece of all, the dusty pink beaded cocktail dress with the satin bow at the waist. To see how intricate and precise the designs are and what went into making them is both fascinating and beautiful. The Bowes Museum, located in Barnard Castle, are celebrating over 55,000 visitors and an extension of the exhibition till November 8th.
