Aldi Vs. Jo Malone?

Aldi Vs. Jo Malone?

I know I’m slightly late to the party with these but I’ve only just picked one up to see if they really do rival Jo Malone. Aldi brought these luxury candles out back in the Spring and every national media outlet going was writing about them. They sold like hot cakes! Thankfully they restocked the candles and they seem to be on sale permanently after the great reviews. I am the biggest fan of Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir, I have the candle, perfume and bath oil. When I found out they were doing a dupe of the scent I obviously had to try it…

The Packaging

You can see that Aldi have styled the candle extremely similar to that of Jo Malone. Both come in a clear glass jar, with silver lid and neutral coloured wax. You can’t really say one looks more luxurious than the other. The main difference is the Jo Malone candle is 200g and burns for 45 hours whereas the Aldi offering is 290g and burns for 48 hours.

The Scent

Yes they smell very similar but there is a difference. When you take the lid off the Jo Malone candle the scent hits you in the face before you even light it. The Aldi candle you have to really stick your nose in to get a good whiff. I put them to the test on separate occasions to find out which had the best scent pay off. First up was Jo Malone. It filled my average sized room in around 30 mins and I could even smell it from the hallway and into other rooms in the house! Once you blow the candle out you can still smell it lingering for hours after. Aldi’s candle took a good hour or maybe more to fill the room and the scent was a lot more subtle. However, the scent was still enjoyable, but it didn’t have the wow factor that the Jo Malone scent does.

The Price

The biggest difference of all… A Jo Malone candle will set your back £44.00! Aldi’s candles are only £3.99!

Aldi Vs. Jo Malone?

Jo Malone come out on top when it comes to the quality of the scent and I will happily purchase another candle from them (as a rare luxury treat). But, at the end of the day, the difference in price is HUGE and it’s not often people have a spare £44.00 in their back pocket to splash out on a candle. I’m really impressed with Aldi’s offering and will definitely be making a repurchase!

Have you tried the Aldi candles? Let me know what you think…
